Pickup coil line

On my 80 SG the vacuum line coming out out the pickup coil goes to the carb boot closest to the pickup coil.Correct? The octopus line goes to the next carb body.It has been that way for 18 plus years.Is that correct?I thought i read a thread telling me different.I dont have the stock airbox.Replaced that with K&N individual filters aound 18 years ago.

This one goes on #2 carb body, not the boot.
Vac line for fuel should not make a difference what boot it's on but mine are on #2 carb boot. All other boots are capped off.

That vac line from the timing cover goes to the front left side of carb #2. That's front left when your siting on the bike. There is a copper tube about 1/2 an inch long sticking out of carb # 2 at that location. You can't miss it... unless a PO stuck a vac cap on it.

The carb body port for the vac advance restricts and dampens the vacuum pulses from the cylinder.

Should you wish to see the difference, pull the left cover off the engine and see what it's doing now, then switch hose to carb body.

Should realize a little better fuel economy and smoother running engine. With that said, I have the vacuum port plugged on my hot rod XS and it runs very well at all RPM including idle.

Daughter #2 fuba'red my camera and she got this new one.

MRO I put the vacuum line where you said it goes.I pulled the choke out and it warmed up rather quickly, but i had to hit the gas a couple of times in order for bike to rev.Could that be because i had a tee fitting in between the lines?

Use no fittings on vac advance line.
Also if you are using original vac line, check it's integrity.
Look for any cracks etc.. (can go bad right where it enters engine cover too)
Original vac/fuel lines and the caps on carb boots can be a problem that is not always noticeable without specifically checking them.

Would do the
"carb cleaner spray on intake boots check for vac leaks"
too.
Be sure to spray where boot mounts to head. Had one of mine that would not seal properly so instead of a gasket put some non-hardening gasket sealer on em. Has worked OK now for last year and a half.

Doing the easy checks/tests first to eliminate them from the possible problem list. Helps narrow down trouble shooting and it's good to know what condition things are in.

MRO,Thanks for the info.I took off the old line and will need to replace vacuum line because it is not long enough.Just by chance do you know what size vacuum line it is?

All hoses for the vacuum are 3/16.
