  • Pilot Jet for 80 sg

Need some info, picked up a decent carb for My 78e.

Had to reverse drill out 2 of the pilot jets.

Just received them, & noticed that on the body of them,

their are NOT ANY drilled out holes.

Checked Yamaha microfitch, and the part numbers are

    correct.

Sooooooooooooooo, do I need the three holes, like the

ones had that I took out, and also the other two had

    the holes also.

Even MY 78e pilots had them with the holes !!

I cannot see any difference in size or anything else different

other than Not having the holes.

So, whats up with them, Iam baffled.

Thx in advance, & tc & keep the back rubber down !!

Were like that from the factory, or do you know? I have heard others also make that claim.

        pilot jets, cont.

Probably not like that from the factory.

Also, found out today that the guy that sold me the carb, checked

the title, & finally gave me the # off of it,

it is a 1981sh eleven special, LOL !!!

Soooooooo, the 2 pilots that I ordered, are the right ones for the

carb., now the only problem I have is, that I had to order 2 more

from My dealer, cuz, the ones that were in the carbs., were the

        Wrong ONES, LOL.

So, anyway, Gunna slap them on My 78e when I get the 2 other

        pilots.

Gunna be interresting to see if there is any difference in the

performance of mine, will let ya know.

TC all, & keep da back rubber down, ltr, Andy B.

My stripped slingshot carbs have the same no-holes mikuni pilot fuel jets, the pilot air tube doesn't run through the pilot jets like on the xs carbs, the air pilot tube flows past the jets' nozzle instead, can't see them working very well in the XS carbs

              Hey Patrick,

That brings up a good point regarding the statement that MikesXS makes about being able to use the no holes pilots vs. the holy ones....of course they are referring to the XS650 series of bikes and carbs. I don't have an exploded view of the fuel/air pathways for the 650 carbs, but being the same circa/year I wouldn't think that they(Yamaha) would have designed them much different than the XS11 carbs, and so I wonder IF their statement really is true about being able to use the NO HOLES type pilots in the 650 carbs??

I just know that when I took my 81SH apart, it had the HOLY pilots, and I feel they are critical in providing the proper air mixing properties for the pilot jet circuit, and without them, it should make them run richer cause less air is being drawn into the circuit thereby sucking more fuel thru the jet and richening it up!?
