HOW DO I INSTALL GAS FILTERS ON A XS1100 SPECHEL WITH AN OCTPUSS ON IT

  • #2
    Anywhere you can!

    Hey Bear,

The Octy is a real PITA, but if you are determined to keep it, then you'll need to put the filters just below the petcocks before the lines get to the OCTY, and you may have to do some fancy routing to keep them from getting kinked and such.

Folks without the Octy just run the right petcock lines over to the left bank of carbs and vice versa to reduce the angle of the bends the hoses make and fit the filter inline wherever there is room, keeping the lines from making too big a loop and dropping below the level of the intake "T" fittings on the carbs!

Easy way is: remove the octopus.
Cap the PRIME outlets on the tank(closest to the front), you won't need them.
Replumb the remaining outlets with new tubing.
Fit so the filters rest between the inlets from the air filters.
You will need to get in the habit of turning the fuel on and off.

Otherwise you will need four filters and it will be a mess to try and route everything cleanly.

I found some small paper filters at Autozone. They fit just right and have more capacity than the bronze ones the bike people will try to sell you.
