  • Bad gas

I thought I was having problems with my octopus. But the gas has been sitting in the tank for 4-5 years. It started right up before off this gas, so I assumed it was OK. Mebbe when I opened the petcocks to prime, might I have dumped crappy gas into the carbs, hence no start? When I fed it good gas out of a gas can it eventually cleared up and the throttle responded normally.

Get rid of the bad gas. Drain your tank and use fresh gas. If you are very luck it might not have done anything major to your carbs. Would be a good idea to clean the inside of your gas tank as well. There is more than likely all sorts of crud in there somewhere including the petcocks and carbs. I know that that sounds like a whole lot of work but better safe than sorry.
