  • mostly good news, but a clutch cable question

Well, I'm back home with my new toy and have been for 2 weeks now. after some fiddling I've got all my wiring problems sorted out, and because my blinkers finally work, my license carries a beautiful Class L endorsement for motorcycle driving instead of a permit status .

More good news i picked up a really nice, almost brand new $175 HJC helmet for only 75 bucks on the bay.

Also from eBay, a new set of handlebars to have a little variation from the buckhorns. they're pretty sitting in the mounts, but theres nothing on them...

Leading me to the question, how is a stock clutch cable on a 79 special? when i push that assembly far enough on the bar it leaves a big ole loop. Not to mention, someone was kind enough to break the adjustment bold clean off in the lever mount, so i'll have to back that screw out some "fun" way . anyway, by measuring with a piece of cable routed through, i get about a 44 inch custom length. just want to know how much of a change this'll be.

    Again thanks,
    Kyle

    Hey Kyle,
I have aftermarket bars with only a 3" rise and I still use the stock clutch cable and throttle cable without too much of a loop. You can re-route it to take up some of the slack as long as there are no kinks. I did switch to a shorter brake line from the MC down to the splitter on the fork but that was mostly because I had a shorter line handy.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.
