    speedo THINKS it's a tach...

'went for a ride Sunday and after 40 miles noticed my speedometer "waving" at me - from 40mph to 130mph...
    then it 'peged'...
about 3 minutes later I noticed the 'pointer' had busted OFF and what was remaining was 'spinning' at (what looked like) 3,000 rpm...

I just sold 2 1980 speedometers and now I have to go to eBay to replace mine

...anybody else ever have this happen to their speedo??

You simply must learn to control that throttle!

I'll bet it was the oil hardened and made the magnet and wheel
      direct drive ...
take the bezel off and clean the oil , reoil . can repair with a newneedle .
read tc made a needle ...
The bezel is not a joy to seperate , some were talking about using a slitting saw to cut around the plastic speedo case ...

mine does that now when its warm. I was just going to spray some oil in there and let it run for a while. Spedo's don't like it when you do that but maby the oil will work itself in. I just reassembled my spedo and I do not want to open it again. I much prefer a lagging spedo over this.
