  • Practice safe carb repair

Got this off one of the Kawasaki lists but since it relates to a common problem, carb diaphram repair, I thought it might be useful to someone.

    From:kawasakikz400andkz440owners@yahoogroups.com

Vinyl Weld or a similar product is the repair substance to use. Super
Glue can be used to edge-glue a split in a stuck-on-the-road crisis,
but it won't last very long.

The Vinyl Weld stuff will work and if you are dealing with a hole or
ragged edged tear then the repair area can be reinforced with a piece
of a heavy (non-sensitive) latex condom, or a piece of panty hose
material. You want to use as little as possible (and still do an
effective repair), not just gob a big bunch of **** on there. I've
been running a repair for the better part of two years - so far; so
    good.

In the end, if I still have an interest, I'll pull a non-repairable
one apart and replace the entire rubber part somehow. Sheet neoprene
would work, but I'll have to figure out something to reconnect it all
without making it too much heavier.

Mick, were you joking about using a condom to repair the diaphrams?
Fortuanately, I don't need any diaphrams... not yet anyway. Always on
the lookout for a workable repair for things that are becoming very
difficult to find. Any details you can provide would be great. I did a
search on Yahoo, but didn't return anything on it.

yes a condom or a piece cut from a balloon glued in with vinyl weld
should work nicely....i believe stephen has allready done this with
    success....

    UK replacement

Company called NRP in Manchester (UK) sell replacement diaphragms which I bought about 18 months ago - good as new now.

Bit more pricey than vinyl glue tho' - but at least it means I don't have to revisit and re-repair every year or so.
