    linked brakes

Hi all, I'm a new member here, and an xs850 owner.

It has been suggested to me that one model of xs11 had linked brakes like a Moto Guzzi ie the pedal operated one front disk as well as the rear one.

Is this true? Which model was it? Did it come to the UK.

I hope this rumour is true coz I want to fit this system to my own 850.

    Thanks all.

Why don't you use one from a guzzi... it should work.

I figured that other Yamaha parts are more likely to fit my bike than Guzzi parts

The XJ model, '82 in the US and through '84 in some other countries, has the linked braking system. Rear brake pedal activates the rear and front left calipers. There is a proportioning valve attached to the rear master cylinder, giving rear brake more force at low pedal pressures and the front brake more at higher pressures. The service manual has a chart in it that plots the operational curve of the proportioning valve.

Thanks Jerry. Does the manual give piston diameters etc?

            lined brakes

            Dear,

sure my xj has linked brakes and I am trying to find out how to de-link them (and how make the line in ss) as I don't like it at all.

I find that it has no advantages and it complicate uneccessarily the brakes system that in mine is really pretty bad.

Considering that I am permanently driving in a country that look like a "crash bandicut" videogame, I hope my gods will watch me constantly so I may remain member of this "illustre" forum till late age.

omegaxj from Nova Scotia switched his XJ to regular brakes, I think you just need the parts from an XS to retrofit. Send him a PM and see if he can help.
