  • valve and guide replaced at 3000 miles??

    ebay Item number: 330123377215

    Vehicle Description

here is a near mint bike with low miles (3264) a 1980 yamaha xs 1100. the pics say it all, this bike was in storage for over fifteen years, however this bike has a sticky exhaust valve on the #4 cylinder, I did try to run some (ring free) a product that removes all the carbon from inside the motor but it did not help. I am sure the head needs to be removed and the valve and guide replaced.

The pipes look nice but I wonder who the genious was that used the aluminum spray paint on the engine and cylinder cases, yuk. If it sat for 15 years the valve stems and valve guides could have accumulated a little surface rust. You can remove the head and disasemble it and then clean up the valves by using Scotchbrite and laquer thinner.Get yourself a bore brush for a 7.62 mm rifle (M-14) and lightly clean (with light oil) the bores of the guides.A couple passes with a fine bore brush with light oil is all it takes. The stock guides come from the factory with the high temp red "O" rings installed at the base of the guides and are almost indestructable. The guides can be replaced by a competent shop but it is usually not necessary unless some fool ruined them by a bad valve job.If the seats and valves themselves have no nicks and are nut burned you can lap them with a fine lapping compound and be good to go.Of course you will want to remove the carbon from the chambers prior to lapping the valves. A stock head gasket is a $100 bucks and you will need new valve stem seals and so this little freshem up is not cheap. The stock valves are no longer available from Yamaha but some dealers still have them as I bought a set over the winter.Kibble-White also makes valves for these things in any size you want.
