  • What part are inter changable with other Yamaha's?

With what appears to be part gouging because the XS1100 is the king of XS's,,,,What parts are interchangeable??Specifically the speedo?
Anybody have any experience with a speedometer off of a XS650? Any other parts the come to mind would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure any Yamaha speedo of the era will work on an 11.

Mikes's XS has a decent selection of new ones.

As far as what parts wil interchange, there is a great reference at http://www.benefiscal.co.uk/. It cross references several yamaha models for parts.

        XS650 speedo fits right on

        Hi saddle up,
Speedo off an XS650 fits right on my XS11SG. Even coped with being in mph on a Canadian kph bike.
Other things I know swap between an XS650 and an XS1100 because I've done it:-
Front brake disks (also XS11 rear to XS650 front)
        Front wheel either way.
        Rear brake caliper either way.
Front brake caliper either way between XS650 and XS11 Standard (NOT XS11 Special)
JWS's link has lots more swaps from XS750 & XS850
        Tachs DON'T swap.

I bought an XS650 Speedo to replace my own.

I realized later that there are some wires missing to do with the self-cancelling indicators.

Not sure if you get that feature in the US but it's something to keep in mind. If you buy an XS650 speedo you'll have to exercise your left thumb more.

            They both gottem

            Hi Shappers,
North American XS650 & XS11 speedos both have the self-canceller reed-switch in them. Both the Metric & the MPH instruments. Not that the stupid thing works every time.

Mine works only when it's warm, and then only half the time. I think there's a tech tip about this, but it's so minor of a problem compared with other things that I don't know if I'd bother.

                      seats don't swap

                      Hi Oldyam,
those seats look the same but they ain't the same. The XS650 seat clicks down and has a keyed latch to lift it off. The XS11 seat is bolted down with slidy bolts you need a socket wrench to get at. The two systems are incompatable so XS11 owners are stuck with the inferior system. OK you could cut'n'weld the frames to mount the XS650 seat-latch towers on the XS11 frame but no way I'd try that.
