  • still runs great

Ok, I got this bike with carbs hanging by cables and brakes locked up and had it on street within 10 days. But i know po replaced main jets with unknown size from local dealer and bike runs good after i did carbs 3 times during three day encounter.
However, after giving it a good 40 mile urban run- I checked plugs and found #4 perfectly tan and 1.2.3 black as soot . I will welcome any input. If i hadn't checked plugs I wouldn't have asked! Runs that good

If you think it runs great now, wait till you've been into the carbs a couple more times and get them color-tuned and sync'd. You will want to have a good read through Mike Hart's epic adventure , then start in for your own. Trust me, you'll be amazed at how much better it can be....

My epic adventure isn't done yet either, I've ordered larger pilots.

XJguy, synch if you haven't already, then find out what kind of gas mileage you get, like fill it up and cruise at xx mph for 100 miles, that's a start.

If you don't have synch tool, see Pre-Synchronizing Carburetors and Home Made Vacuum Gauge Synchronizer.

Or maybe you know that stuff already.

Could be as simple as adjusting idle screws... or not

My question is, how come the jets are of unknown size? No size stamped on top of mains or sides of pilots???

Why did po rejet? You have individual filters and/or 4-into-1?

From what I know the po(American Cycle and Mower) struggled to get the bike to run. From what I can tell a tech there assumed the main jets were the problem and replaced them. I do have a receipt- but the jets have no size markings. Like i said the bike was in some pieces when I got it. I did pre-synch procedure from thread. From measurements I took before I started I ended up where I sarted which was ok. I have a vacuum gauge and a unisyn and access to mercury sticks if I need them. However I have had a hell of time locating threaded rod for yics tool. The local dealer can still get me the factory tool- but $120.00 is hard even for me to justify. So if anybody has threaded rod they have left over, let me know i will buy it! We have had no success finding it in the approriate length locally. I'm familair with adjusting multiple carbs, having worked as a tech at a porshe audi dealer for 10 years. I still love this bike and my height challenged expert class rider wife wants to ride it again! me, I am just an "urban traffic rider".

maybe a machine shop could just thread some rod stock if you can't find it at hardware stores? But, I've found the pre-synch does get you really close.

I wonder if your mains are really all the same size?

If you have stock airbox and exhaust, you could get orig Mikuni 112.5's.

If you have not come across it yet, here is a link to building your own YICS tool.

If the po used K&N rebuild kits, you probably have the wrong main and pilot jets. These kits used unmarked parts and are usually the wrong size for our bikes.

Mike, you may be on to something about different size main. I really didn't pay that close attention during my 3 trips into carbs. That will give me something to do this winter. I just know mains didn't have markings, I had busted old mains in a bag and receipt from PO. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
here I go. Damn now I know why you got rid of stock air filter housing- It's a bummer. Also guess i'll thread a rod myself and
make a yics tool the hard way!

Has anyone ever noticed that on the description of the YICS tool that they recommend that you have 16 feet of threaded bar. At least that is what I thought 16' meant. What do you do with the other 14 foot 8 inches of threaded bar?

Hey gary, I would take all I could get because the longest length I have been able to find in Atlanta is 12". Wait a minute where is this conversation going?
