    Headlight idot light

The idiot light for the head light comes on when the low beam is on.but goes out when flipped to high beam.Does this mean i just need to replace the headlight or is it a wire issue?1980 xs1100g

The idiot light is doing it's job

It lights up to tell you that the low beam filament is out, and that it has turned on the high beam at a decreased brilliance (voltage). When you switch to high beam, the lamp gets full voltage, and will appear normal. You need to replace the headlight bulb. It is an H4 bulb.
