  • that frame bolt that holds on the rear shock,

I stripped it. You know the old rusty one with the stupid cheesey acorn nut that fills full of rust and bonds to the bolt for all eternity? It mounts the upper part of the shock. My question is can it be removed or do I have to make do with what is left? Basically is it removable or is it welded to the frame?

I hate to be the one that has to tell you that it is welded to the frame.

If you are good with a drill and tap, the mounting boss can be drilled and raped to take a hex bolt and washer

The only option I can think of is to cut a weld a new boss on.

How far did you strip it? I had the nut fall off one of mine. For some reason it doesn't have acorns. When replacing it I stripped the first few threads on mine but I was able to get a washer and nut past the stripped part and it still works fine.

Is it my mechanical ineptitude or does it seem like all the OEM fasteners on this bike made with really soft metal? I don't feel like I'm tourquing anything to the extreme.

I'm a big guy and I can shear off some pretty good sized bolts, but this thing was SOFT. Any way I lost maybe the last 1/4 inch. I think I'll try the nut and washer approach, see if it works. Right now I've got it held on with a plastic wire tie.
