  • a bad rectifier

    Hello,
Looking for verification that I did this right.

I think I have a bad rectifier on my 79 XS1100; I used a digital multi-meter set to the diode scale and placed the red lead on the white wires and the black lead on the red wire. No voltage was passed to the red lead. I reversed the leads and got zilch as well.

I checked this against my 1977 xs750 rectifier and the 77 rectifier testes good. Red test lead on white wires passes voltage to the red wire and black lead on the white wires only passes to the black wire.

So if the rectifiers are about the same then I probably need a new rectifier for the 1100. I thought about stealing from the 750 but unfortunately this is on of the original 77s and comes with a separate rectifier and regulator.

Are there any good sources for the rectifier/regulator for a 1977 xs1100? (not special.)

Try here. Better than stock and much cheaper. Also gives you more output. Made a big difference in my78E http://www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/Reg_rec_units.html Plus he is a member of this site

rman, aside from the fact that you used the word testes in your second paragraph, id say your right... sorry i couldn't leave that one a lone. I should probably leave that beer alone too
