Was your timing on the crank on the "T" and the cams aligned to the dots when you installed them back in? If it is in time, it sounds like a valve isn't closing all the way for some reason. Check your valve clearances. Hopefully it was all in time so you didn't bend anything.

Also might have put the wrong plug wires on the wrong plugs, firing during intake instead of compression stroke?? But, yes, we need lots more info about what all you have done to rebuild it!!

Don't worry about how long the post/reply will be!

              Well,

Hate to tell you this, but the carbs can be a real "BEAR"!

You stated you cleaned the carbs, but what all did you do to do this? Did you pull them down completely, or did you just take the float bowls off? Did you soak them in cleaner( a NO NO!)

Have you done a compression test? Did you check the valve clearances once you got it all back together? Did you clean out the gastank? Does it still have the Octopus valve? Did you verify that fuel flows from the petcocks, and thru the octopus?

Vacuum leaks can occur in many places, the old intake boots and their connection to the head, vacuum lines. What YEAR is this special? There are considerable differences in the carbs between the 78-79 series and the 80-81 series!

There's also a great troubleshooting guide for the TCI in the links section, Randy's Home Page(resident Electrical Guru)!

Do you have a multimeter? Several tests that can be done on the main igntion coils, spark plug wires, caps!

                    Well, Bear,

Hate to be the "bear"er of bad news, but you will probably need to pull the carbs again, and this time do a proper cleaning, removing the floats, the main and pilot jets, the main nozzle that comes up thru the carb body, the pilot screws, and then with several cans of carb cleaner, spray thru all of those holes to make sure you get spray out thru the 3 little holes in the front top of the carb throat, along with every where else. Don't forget EYE PROTECTION.

Don't soak the carb bodies!! Inspect the float bowls, there's a jet in it, make sure it's open, use a small soft piece of wire if needed along with carb cleaner to get it open and flowing..that's where the starter jet/fuel enrichener gets its fuel from, if clogged, no fuel, no start!!

Soak the other hard parts, jets, nozzle, etc. in cleaner, or use a toothbrush and spray cleaner and make sure ALL of the little holes in the sides of the pilot jet and main nozzle are clear and open!

Sitting for years with fuel in them, the gas gums and varnishes, and really clogs all of these little openings restricting or preventing fuel flow....possibly why it won't start or fire!?
