  • center Stand

Hey, guys, I think I have bent my center stand somehow. Seems the right leg is shorter than it used to be. Is the cross member of the center stand supposed to be a little bent? I have a 1980 "G" model. I found a 79 and a 80 center stand on eBay and in the picture for the 79 the cross member looks straight but the picture of the '80 one doesn't. Is it possible that the right attach point on the frame is bent? I have had this bike since new and have never had a problem getting it up or off the centerstand until today. Any help would be appreciated.

This will not answer your question directly. I have an 78E model and put an exhaust set from an 81H on it. The exhaust mounts did not line up (I modified it) but the center stand was way off. The solution is to store it in the garage and when I need it, I can quickly slip the bolts into it to lift the rear of the bike.

missinglink - check to see if someone has inadvertently replaced the shouldered bolt on the right side with a normal bolt. That would make the right side sit 2 or 3 mm low.

            You state

You stated in your question that you have owned the bike since new. If you have not had anyone else working on the bike then I would suspect that you have something that has bent or come loose.

Thanks, for the help, guys. Mike, the pictures are great! I'll just have to crawl under there and take a closer look. I was going to take the center stand off but I have to remove the right muffler to get that bolt out. I'm gonna wait on that until I have some new bolts and exhaust gaskets on hand. On their way from BikeBandit.

I'll see if I can figure out how to post some pictures on the site.

              Thanks, again.

Here's a normal stand, you can make out the slight bend in the cross piece.
