is it normal for the somewhat loud sound when i shift on the xj1100. i have talked to some people that say that it is just because it is shaft driven, and i have talked to others that say it needs to be checked out. i changed the gear oil last year and it made no change at all. so is it normal....ot is this a big problem. everything works fine as far as going through the gears, no problems at all, just the sound, and its not that bad, just a loud, click/grind type of a sound....any ideas??? thanks alot. -Joe

Hey Frog,
There are 2 places to adjust your clutch, one at the engine cover, the other is at the handlebar. You need to set the engine one first, and then the handlebar one. There is a TECH TIP(hint) that tells you how to adjust the clutch engine side.
These trannys ARE very clunky, square cut gears, etc.. I had a friend riding behind me for the first time and he thought he was going to see tranny parts flying out after he heard me shifting, and I "USE" the clutch!
But getting it up to the proper rpm before shifting and blipping the throttle and pulling the clutch in can make the shifts smoother and quieter, but also different grades of oil can also quiet it!
