    Shift Fork ?

I was tinkering around and found that my clutch slips in 5th gear.
I also have to hold in the clutch for like 5 seconds to get it into second gear without grinding the gear. All else works fine but that grinding into second has me wondering if it's the shift fork or is it an after effect of a slipping clutch??

my vote is for a bent shift fork, had the same problem, for about twenty feet, then it broke, and the trans. locked up and I came to a screeching halt... no fun . hope this helps...be careful, I was going slow, it could have gotten ugly if I was moving at speed.

make sure your clutch is adjusted properly. Usually you have to hold the clutch in a bit for things to engage easily. That is usual

Thanks for the info. I might just get a new fork for second to be safe. I have to do the tranny fix anyway so I don't want to go in there more than I need to.

I have a silly question, which is the shift fork that engages 2nd gear?

            Hey Nemisus,

It's the #1 shift fork, closest to the gear shifter lever, left hand side of engine. It moves the 5th gear wheel which actually engages the 2nd gear!
