  • Need a bolt

I need to replace the bolt and nut that holds on the top of the right rear shock. It also holds the end of the grab bar. When I look at the schematic on bikebandit.com I can't seem to identify it.

My problem is that the nut fell off somewhere and I tried replacing it with an off-the-shelf nut. In the process the bolt got stripped. So I need to replace it. Any suggestions on if this is something that can be ordered?

Aren't the top shock mounts studs that are part of the frame?

Oops is right. I was afraid that the bolt was welded to the frame. What do you mean by thread chaser? the entire thread isn't stripped, just part of it in the middle. I think if I can get the right nut to go past the missing thread section I would be all right.

          McMaster.com

McMaster will have both the nut and thread die.

            If it's really fritzed - - -

            - - - and beyond salvage, try this:-
Saw off the ruined stud. Carefully mark the exact centre and tap drill real deep and counterbore 10mm x ~10 deep. The stud gets fatter as it goes into the frame so there is meat enough to do this. Tap the hole the more common M10x1.5 and use a grade 8.8 M10x1.5 hex bolt to hold the shock on. The 10mm counterbore lets the bolt's plain shank take the shear stress instead of the smaller area of the thread root.
