I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but why won't my gas guage work? I have no idea what the po has inside the tank but I have a guage on the dash and the connectors match up. any thoughts?

There is a trouble shooting procedure to check the gauge. In my case, the voltage regulator for the fuel gauge in the the tach has died, and they are no longer available. But, I have been using the trip odometer as a "fuel gauge" for years and it has proved reliable. When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

Pull the sending unit in the tank. Hook an ohm meter to it and moving the float arm, you should see variable resistance. That'll show you that the sending unit works. If all the wires and such are correct, and you are getting voltage to the sending unit, the problem could be the guage on the dash.
Mine didn't work when I first bought it. the curved bi-metal stripthat moves the needle on the gauge had broken. I took the guage apart, and fixed it with crazy glue.
Problem solved.
