slipping clutch problem after assemble...

Well I haven't got to the carbs yet, kinda choppy.....

But over the winter......
removed the covers to polish them up
Spring sort of creaped up on me, painted them instead. MAN I can't paint.

any way.. now my clutch is slipping

Not really until i get into the throttle, but it's there.

I did make sure the cable has slack in it. Still there.....

could I have gotten the lever mis aligned

What oil did you put back into it after the re-assemble.

Hey Renegade,

Aside from the slack the handlebar, did you do the actual pushrod adjustment under the right side cover per the manual/tech tip??

IF you have the adjustment correct, and you are using dino juice, and it's still slipping, then the NEW POWER may have finally revealed the problem, worn frictions, but also more likely sprung springs. When under compression for a long time=storage, they can loose their strength and then under heavy loads will allow the plates to slip. There's a new tech tip in the MODS or REPAIRS section about the extra steel plate for the clutch pack, check them out....from the MAIN FORUM PAGE scrolling down to the tips, not from the Left Column link!

15w40 rotella, It's what I had



Yeah I know it's for a big truck, but I am a truck driver and it's all I had.


I changed to 10w30 Valvoline, clutch still slipping.

Probably time for one any how, 36500 on the odometer

Still didn’t get to the carb kits, but just wondering…

I have done away with the air-box, in favor of pod filters,

Stock mufflers were long since replaced by the PO with after market
Silencers, which the inserts lets just suffice it to say, junk.
Those have been replaced by me with 1-7/8 straight pipe.

A pal of mine said I would burn the valves if I don’t change the mains,
The new carb kits have a total of 4 ea 110 mains and 2 ea 120 mains
I understand the 120’s are for 2&3 and 1&4 get the 110’s,
Should I change that or what?????

Engine as far as I know is Stock…

P.S. I have a 78 xs750
it's just laying here had 16.000 on it
just curios, will the clutch fit my 80 xs1100 special?????
also will the kick starter, and maybe the upper tree bracket,
kinda like to lower the front a little
but can't with the air shocks on my special,
the xs750 has standard shocks and the upper tree has risers

Rotella is actually considered by many here the best oil you can put in the XS - it won't cause any slipping of clutch or starter clutch.

Or more accuratley I left it on the dining room table and my wife moved it to the land of never again to be seen

Put new springs in it. My last full clutch job showed all the discs were well within specs at 65k. Springs were shot. Free length was below spec and I am sure the springy was sprung. I did replace the fibers and the springs with OEM parts, cleaned up the steels and CAREFULLY reassembled. Watch out for the "star" when you reassemble, it can be broken real easy.

Hey John,

I merged your threads, I realize that you didn't get any answers to your questions at the middle of your original thread, but just reply and BUMP it back up to get our attention again instead of repeating yourself in a new thread!

You can check out the Official Online Yamaha Parts Catalog, there's a link I'm pretty sure in the LINKS section. You can look up 750 parts like clutch basket and plates, and compare their part #'s, if they are the same, then you know you can use them. I know many parts are interchangeable, but many are not.

Lamric also posted a link, you have to join, but it's a parts finder, and will tell you when you type in the XS1100 Yamaha Part # what other bike uses that same part.

Several folks here have 750's, so they are more knowledgable about whether the TT's and or forks will work with the 11?!
