Put a set of wrap around crash bars on 79 XS1100 SF, came with 10mm rod threaded at both ends that was about 12 3/4 inches long, 1.25 pitch thread. I said was because when torqueing it to spec the end broke off! Obviously not up to OEM specs. Original bolt is too short as top of bars mounts with the thru bolt. Any ideas, hate to use all threaded rod as it will be smaller diameter overall. Does not need to be 1.25 pitch. Thanks

When I put crash bars on my XJ several years ago I needed a longer-than-stock top bolt. Went down to Ace Hardware, they had a bolt longer than OEM, same diameter and metric to boot. It was the longest one they carried, and is still on my XJ today. No threaded rod needed.Jerry Fields

I used threaded rod for my caseguard/motormount bolt for about 4 yours. When I installed it, it was going to be temporary. I was afraid it would do bad things to the motormounts and would not be strong enough. I made it long enough to put washers, lock washers, and buddy nuts on each end. Very convenient when removing case guards. A long bolt with a head will require that you support the engine and remove it whenever you need to pull the caseguard for any reason. When I removed the threaded rod, it was like new.Skids (Sid Hansen)
