but we poorboys / basturds here are on a tight budget, so wouldnt it be cheaper to go to wallymart or pep boys and buy some door trim..

It's called Plate mold and may still be available at Bike Bandit for about 16 to 18 bucks. The door type trim is not formed to the shape of the tank and will be difficult to keep in place but you could try it.

I used the door trim stuff 6 years ago, and it's still STUCK in place, and still looks pretty good! There are little metal clips around the lip of the tank that help grab/hold the new trim in place, and I think the new trim has adhesive on the inside as well, but if not, wouldn't be hard to put some on it!

It's gummed on the inside so it does stay on the tank, and it's about the right length, I've had 10,000 miles out of mine on my SG.
