  • More brakes

Here's this bike, XS1200, it's a bit of a streetfighter look, and lots of non-original parts, but these brakes, GSXR calipers, they're bolted dead-on with one-piece brackets, here's some pics

      What XS1200?

      Hi PGGG,
I don't see no steenkin' bike. All I see is 3 slabs of aluminum and the hacksaw you presumably cut 'em with. Or if that's 3 slabs of stainless steel and the hacksaw you presumably cut 'em with, um, I never said a word.

Here's the final shape and fit after heaps of cutting, hacking, swearing. Pumped em' up with fluid and went for a test ride. Yep, it's true the 4-pot nissin calipers & cylinder are super-strong & good feel at the lever too.

OK just an update on this brake swap, well I've done a fair few miles on these nissin brakes now and they're working great, all the bite you'd ever need, their 'grab' is plain ferocious if wanted, but easily controlled with a good feel, a couple of fingers on the lever all that's required.

This nissin cylinder is 14mm(XS cylinder is 17mm) the lever is soft and light to operate, touch the brakes at 100mph and the front end dives like an injured pommy soccer player, I think these modern brake systems are capable of overpowering the flexy frame on the big heavy XS if not careful. My XS has light smallish 270mm XJ900 discs, hells teeth, the big 310 - 330mm discs found on modern sportbikes, they must dish out some serious G-forces..

              bite

Hey that's cool set-up pggg. I took the calipers from the busa and made a mock-up of a spacer to put them on xs11 standard forks...they would pinch the xs11 disc nicely....But I think that's overkill because the braided lines and drilled discs already want to reverse wheelie...found a zx11 s/a yet?

Yeah Chop, 300mm XS discs and busa cylinder/calipers, would surely stop on a dime, and yeah, browsing the U.S. ebay from down here, getting pissed off seeing so MANY available bike parts at such LOW prices , jeez, even an old ZX11 swingarm would be scarce and killer expensive down here - here it's mostly a case of 'make your own'
