If you mean the two relays just under the tank/behind the carbs, one of those is the turn signal cancelling unit.

Do you mean the 'stator'? That's the stationary part of the alternator, the winding inside the alternator cover.

Yes, you do need both those relays to activate, or wire around them.

The BATT lcd is the battery sensor telling you that either your battery fluid level is low, the connector came apart, or is corroded. It is not voltage related, but rather fluid level related.

Have you checked Troubleshooting a bike that will crank but won't start?

I'm thinking you didn't get the XJ specific battery, if you have to ask where the connector is, because there is a wire coming out of the cap of one of the center cells of the battery, and about 6-8 inches along that wire is the connector.

Not a problem though. You can either ignore the batt light and press the button on the lcd panel to shut of the blinking red light, or you can look in the tech tips for how to fool the lcd unit into thinking you have a sensor-type batter. It isn't involved in the starting circuit.

What is your real issue? Your bike won't fire? Won't crank? Crank but not start? If you are missing the kickstand relay, do you see the two wires that went to it?

Jerry Fields has a tip on bypassing the battery sensor light on XJ's, it explains the problem as well as the fix.
