  • How do I get more leg room?

I have a 79 Special and I'm 6'3". It is a little cramped at times. What have you tall guys done to get more leg room? Is there a good fitting butt pad that boosts the seat height? I also thought about buying a second set of footpegs to cut and weld them to be lower.

    Thanks,
    Ed

The king/queen seats by travelcade tend to be too close to the tank for the driver. Consider a custom seat. Highway pegs on crash bars are good, and I have found the two point bars to be easiest for dropping the pegs even lower because there is no horizontal bar in the way.

Foot boards (if you can find a set) are great for improving leg room.

        Two things...custom seat...highway pegs.

The seat on my Maxim is set back about 2-3 inches farther than a Special. It's a Sargent custom. The highway bars give me plenty of room. I'm about 6 feet even.

Poprock is 6-3. The has highway bars and a Diamond Custom. That is absolutely one of the finest saddles made for the Eleven. Wide and extra long, the Diamond gives the ultimate in support and large surface area for long distance comfort.

Last year they still had XS11 pans available. They aren't cheap but they are good...figure on ~ $400+.

Sargent will build a custom using your pan. I think mine was $265 but I had to wait about 2 or 3 weeks to get it back. So my bike was down until then.

I've got a SARGENT seat on mine and I'm well pleased with it. Have them take away a little from the pillion. I've seen a XS650 seat done that way. KURYAKIN sp? has expensive highway pegs to get your legs out.

          I feel your pain. (6' 4")

Pain?? Yeah, at 6'6" I feel it too! And I have that crappy Cavalcade K/Q bucket of crap seat on mine, and I'm right up there against the gas tank!

I've got Highway pegs on mine which helps during the LDRs. I like having my feet under me during my runs thru the twisties, but would like to have my butt a little farther back. But with my front end jacked up, it does kinda push me back away from the tank a bit, and I haven't gotten my $180.00 worth of riding out of that seat yet, so I may not modify it for a while!

I've even stretched out and slid my butt back onto the Q section of the seat for a spell to help stretch out also!

I've had a Diamond seat on the XJ since 2001, good investment if you plan to put on a lot of miles.

Agree on the extra highway pegs; often what you need is a change of position. I have an off-beat solution, not the best looking but comfortable; took a pair of those small clamp-on mini-floorboards and mounted those to my engine case guard. Sloped forward, I rest the backside of my calves on them with feet pointed forward. Find them more comfortable for long-haul trips than just extra pegs.

Have also put floorboards on the XJ, adaped a pair designed for HD bikes. This lowered the foot position and gave me a better angle on the knees, but does sacrifice some ground clearance. Also went to a heel-toe shifter for this set-up, works a bit better for me than the standard shifter. (Shifter from a Honda Trail 90 bolts right on.)

Another option is to modify the rear foot rests, (aka rear sets) drop them a bit and fold your legs back. I use my stock rests this way from time to time, but others have done more in this area than myself.

Pics on request, or search floorboards and look at previous threads.

When riding on the motorway/highway/autobahn try flicking down the rear footrests and hang the heels of your boots there.

I bought a custom Mustang saddle. Not cheap ($258.00). I also have highway pegs mounted on engine gaurds. I'm like TC. I like to be on center pegs in the twisties and on the long runs, stretch out.

                    pegs

While doing this Hayabusa control mod, I found out you can swap pegs from left to right and turn them upside down, drops your feet by 2" of course you'll have to pull the rear motor mount bolt.....hope this helps...chop
