idle screw

OK Prom that title was just for you My engine is a 81sh, and I can't for the life of me find the idle adjustment screw. The books I have say it's top center on the carb bank but there's nothing there. HELP! I presynched the carbs according to the info here on the site, it runs and performs great! but it's idleing at 5k. makes stop lights a little rough. Thanks for any help!

ya but 5k is really loud at a red light in morning rush hour. Just to make sure I'm right, the idle adjustment is the master adjuster for the butterfly valves, correct? is in or out used to decrease RPM?

I haven't been able to do that since my divorce... haven't had an idle screw for a long time, either.
I'll ignore your personal questions... but answer your carb related one.
Yes, it's the big thumb-wheel looking things between the carbs.
Screwing it in pushes open the plates, increasing speed. Screwing it out, from what I can then figger, would close the plates, dropping the RPM.

got it thanks! runs great now, the front wheel actually came up a little in second gear. I need to get used to the throttle again now that everything runs right.
