    Need some help just got second xs1100 which needs some care and while going over it found loose top bolt on tach loose tightened it and it snapped . Removed cover found bolt is inside tach and am curious if is worth trying to open or should I just look for new tach? Thanks for any help. This is for 1980 xs1100 sg am riding 1979 xs1100 sf to work most days and got tihs one to cleanup and try projects on possibly depending on which one is more comfortable.

    Tachs are most definitely openable. Done it many times. I am about to do it again to my spedo. Use a screw driver a a few sets of pliers to open the collar up. After that, everything slides apart. Don't forget to put each seal around the glass when you assemble it. If you forget, you will get moisture fogging up the glass. Don't ask how I know. When you are clamping it back down, use a rag underneath the pliers to prevent scratching. My spedo now has my name printed on it.

          Hey Fddlefoot,

          In the tech tips, FROM THE MAIN FORUM PAGE SCROLLING DOWN, not the links in the left yellow column, you will find a Tach Repair tip, shows how to take it apart, etc., with pictures and such. Good Luck!

              Thanks topcat pictures very informative question now is can you remove the circuit board as bolt that broke is right behind that?
