Went out to the church parking lot today. There was a nice new dime sized dent in the top of my tank. Someone left $.35 sitting sitting on my gauge. Can you imagine how pissed I am? This tank was 99% perfect. Does anyone think that $.35 could cover anything? They didn't even have the courage to leave a note to apologize or there phone number. My church isn't that big and we are all friends. It wouldn't be that big a deal if they would have just talked to me.
Now that I am officially cooled down after a nice ride, what is the best way to pop it back out. I am going to try the dry ice method and if that doesn't work I will make a bracket that slides into the tank to push it out from the inside. Any tips or suggestions?

I have sucessfully pulled dents using the POPS A DENT .
As long as the metal is not stretched or creased it may work.

What I wonder is, how the hell did the dent the top of the tank?

Yes .. how does a dent get it the top of the tank unless deliberate? Anyway .. If it's a "soft" dent try air pressure to pop it back to original shape. If it's too localized then perhaps you can reach it from one of the fuel petcock holes and be able to apply direct pressure from inside the tank. Good luck with it.

Hot melt glue

Use a hot melt glue gun to put a gob of glue on the end of a small hammer handle and immediately push it into the dent and hold it still 'till it cools and with a quick pull straight away from the dent will pull it right out. Use a heat gun to get any remaining glue off the tank.

planedick is right, cause he put a dent on my tank by accident, i was not happy, just keep his antics far away from your bike,i tried the glue trick before on other dents and worked well enough to improve the overall appearance,

his glue worked better, i guess you have to buy good glue, anyways, it pulled it out 50 to 60percent, i'm not using that tank now, and there ia a nos 78 standard tank on ebay right now.

i guess i'm not that sensitive about all this stuff, no if he were to have blown my motor or something, its only a dent on a tank i was pulling off to replace just like andreas wouldn't get too worked up about stuff like that.

I tried the old dry ice trick which works ok on large dents, but no luck here. There is not enough surface area to try the glue trick, as it is about the size of a dime. Some people say they can't see it, but as it is my tank and I look at it all the time it bothers me quite a bit. I may try the petcock method of putting direct pressure on it. My other alternative would be to build a C clamp in welding that would fit into the tank and put direct pressure that way. I still cannot figure how they made the dent. I thought the paint would be chipped or scratched at least. I am bringing my motorcycle cover with me wherever I go now.

Those paintless dent repair guys ought to be able to handle this one. They have the tools to get in there and push it out. It shouldn't cost too much to get one dent as easy as that one will be for them.
