Any harm in leaving out the Kick Start Idle gear when putting the tranny back together? I don't have a lever any how and it just complicates things.

It's been hard enough to get the %#@* cluster back in any how. I've had it in 3 times, but had to pull it to deal with misaligned shift forks. Good thing I work at night in the garage with the door closed. Neighborhood kids would be getting a good vocabulary lesson. Beer breaks seem to help.

But is not difficult and should only take a minute to put back in.

Took mine out of my old engine 2 yrs ago, didnt work anyway, a previous owner of the bike had kicked on the kicker so hard it tore right thru the aluminum stopper inside engine! Talk about heavy footed....then I just plugged the casing hole ....anyone need a spare kicking crank assembly?

Speaking of removing the kick starter assembly / parts. Can the plug for that hole in the clutch side engine cover be purchased as a separate part ... or does one have to find a clutch cover from a later model that has that plug.

picked one up

I was walking around the yard here at work and picked up this plastic plug that just happened to fit to a TEE into the housing hole, didnt even need glue looks like a furniture plug used to cover a bolt or nut in the furniture.....just a lucky find I guess....try one of those big box hardware stores, they might have something like it. Good hunting

I plan on leaving the pawl in the case with a plastic cover, like a vacuum plug. It would be nice to get a new case, but I am cheap.
