  • front axle question

Anyone know if a 1975 xs650 uses the same size front axle as the 1100. And if so is it possible to put a 650 front wheel on the 11? Thanks

Haven't done that sorry, but I'm also curious if there exists an 1100 style frontwheel in a smaller size (17"or 18"). ?

Think pggg has a 18" on his XS.

XS650 wheel??? may only allow a single brake caliper........and think 75 did not have disk brake.

        Hi Guys,

I have a wire wheel from an XS650 (twin disc) on one of my chopped 1100s. It was a straight swap; no mods. Sorry, but I don't know what year the 650 was.

I have a 2.15x18 wheel from an XS400 in the front of my SG - It was NOT a straight swap! This bike also has forks from an FZR1000 EXUP UK model!) fitted. Main issues were spindle diameter and the width of the hub. Been in there for six ar seven years with no problems.

Sorry to put the same pic up again; It is the start of Spring here, so I should get some new ones soon!

I believe all of the XS650 front wheels will swap to the XS1100. The brake rotor will need to be swapped out on the 1976 and earlier models.

The XS650 has a 19 inch wheel just like the XS1100. The XS650 got a disc brake beginning with the XS-2 in 1972. US models have a single rotor. I believe European and Australian market bikes were usually equipped with dual rotors just like the XS1100. Late XS650s share the same brakes wike XS1100 standards.

Don't be concerned with the early drum brake wheels. They are expensive.

The part number for the XS1100 Standards and Specials front wheel is 2H9-25168-20-00.

This same part is used on the 1978-79 XS750's and the 1980-81 XS850's.

              Plugs right in.

              Hi audijunky,
what Marty sez. XS series Yamahas swap parts like Lego. If you are gonna use the '75 XS650 wheel, it's 2-part disks are a different dish depth and you gotta swap them. Also the '75 XS650 wheel is a deep groove aluminum rim wire wheel that will surely look trick but you are stuck with a tube tire and it won't match the cast rear.
Well,WTF, Harleys come stock with mismatched wheels. OTOH, your XS11 ain't never gonna be mistaken for one of those.
