  • Dynos in Utah

Anyone know of a dyno in southern Utah or somewhat closeby that will test an XS11?

I went back through all the dyno threads and it would be really useful for me to have a picture of the power and of the mixture.

    Hi Ben!

It's been awhile. I don't check this site as much as I used to. No time.

Salt Lake Community College has a dino in their small engine repair program. I saw it a couple of years ago. Looked new and hardley used.

I know it's not Southern Ut. but it might be the closest one to you.

The guy over that program is:

I don't know if he will help you or not but it's worth a try. All he can say is yes or no.

My wife and I had lunch in your home town one Sunday last month. Stopped at the Subway for a sandwich on our way through while driving home from St. George. I didn't look you up or call but I did think about you when we got into town (I know that makes you feel better! )

Hope all is well with you.

    See ya!

Bob, nice to hear from you. How is work going?

Yeah, I'm afraid the dyno shops are all 4 or 5 hours drive for me. That wouldn't be too bad if you have all you gear together. For example, like 2 sets of pipes, different air filters, jets, etc., so that you can stay a day and make adjustments. A baseline run would help, though, even if I couldn't make changes and re-try.

I picked up a copy of the local want ads and was just about to toss out the inner advertising fluff when I spied the word "dyno" on a page.

I looked further and discovered a local dyno shop!
          St. George V-Twin Motorcycles
          1290 Redledge Rd.
          Washington, Utah
          435-986-1258

They claim to have a 250i dynojet.

Not sure yet if they will scoff when I ask them to test a Japanese inline 4....

            http://www.dynojet.com/maps/bikedynos/ut.htm

Dynojet's site has a searchable menu feature that allows you to find a dyno anywhere in the world.

Good luck and be sure to post your results.

Called St. George V-Twin cycles and some smoker chick basically laughed at me when I asked if they test anything other than American V-Twins. I asked further about stuff and she said to call back. I asked, "have you ever seen Dave test a modern sport bike, or basically any brightly-colored bike with plastic on it?" She said no.

Probably out of luck. Maybe it's a Ford vs. Chevy thing, or Mac vs. PC thing for them. Maybe they are afraid that an inline 4 would break their equipment. ?

I'll try Dixie Custom tomorrow and hope for something better.

Shot the bull with Dave today on the phone. He said he would dyno the bike for me, which was a surprise. They charge around $80, I believe. I will arrange some time to do this within the next 2 weeks.

What are the chances that a dyno test will bounce the valves?

                  Hi ae7f,

Revs bounce valves; not where you rev 'em.

A good operator should not be doing anything to your bike that is too out of the ordinary. It may spend more time at WOT than on the road, but there is no point in finding out how much power it makes at revs you will never need or use!

When my bike was dynoed, the operator shut the throttle 500 RPM before the red-line, 'cos the power was dropping...... Over the peak. On the road I have had it 500rpm into the red in top gear........

If it ain't broke, modify it!

Yeah, that's what I meant.... I wonder if this guy has enough understanding of non v-twin engines to know when to stop revving. Maybe I worry too much. I think it will go fine. Can't wait to see what this old bike does. I'm guessing 65-70hp tops.

Tell them MORE than just that!

                        Hey Ben,

At the dyno shop I was at, I ALSO told them that I didn't want them to rev it past redline, due to it's age, new pistons and such! But....on the first run, I heard it whining a bit more than I had ever heard it! So...after that, I AGAIN asked him about the overrevving!

"Oh, this thing doesn't have a rev limiter?" DOH!!

So...just make sure they know that there is NO REV LIMITER on the electronic ignition system, and to keep their eyes on the rpms!
