Cheng Shin , crapiest tire I rode on (was on 80G when I got it)
Continental, second worst, both in ride and wear much better than Cheng Shin tho
Bridgestone, splitfire on now, better than above
Dunlop, have em on the hot rod XS. Seems to handle the best, but it's got suspension mods too...

Deja Vu all over again!
Hey Midnight,
We've had this discussion many a time! You get what you pay for, but you can find better prices than Ebay!! IF you will go to the Links Forum, to the second page, you'll find one for TIRES! In that thread, you'll find several links for other places for Net Shopping!
The Dunlop 404 is a decent tire, but folks have commented on the fact that it's NOT rated for handling as much weight as the 491EliteII's. That can translate into faster wear under same load!
If you want a mileage tire, the EliteII is one of the best, and also provides decent handling as well, ie. twisties, rain.
Happy shopping! T.C.T. C. Gresham

What TC said. I have >9000 miles on 491s on a full dress SG. Rear is starting to show a little wear, but good for another 3-5K I suspect.1980 XS 11 Special: The King of Kong, 9th wonder of the world. I have the 404s on one and I'm putting the dunlop elite lll on the other bike. The 404 was cheaper but the elite "feels" better on corners and under load."If A equals success, then the formula is: A = X + Y + Z. X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut." - Albert Einstein

Hey Mason,
Were you looking at the BIAS tires, or the Radials?! You'll want to get the bias ones. The MT90B-16 is the stock 130/90-16 size for Specials rear. You're right, they don't have one listed for a 17 so the Standards are SOL!

uh oh tire thread!!!!
America's trusted online source to shop the best discounted Motorcycle, UTV, ATV, Side by Side, and 4 Wheeler aftermarket tires, gear, parts and accessories.
I bought a set for mine.......
Bridgestone Spitfire S-11
front and rear cost me shipping and all $123.00
I have about 40K on this brand and these are the best I have found. I usually get 10 out of the rear / 20 out of the front. Typically, I would go to my local motorcycle tire guy and order this brand and model tire. But, the closest motorcycle tire dealer to me right now is 30 miles away. So, this year I bought them online. I just sorta happened across them as I was looking around and trying to find a wholesaler. I got the tires in, checked the date code on them and wouldn't you know it........ they aren't 15 yrs old, or dry rotted or anything wrong with them. I have had them in the twisties just like the ones I paid 100 each for and they perform exactly like the last set. They have a good even feel and I have never had any problems with getting out of balance.
Let the games begin!!!
you never know what'll happen when you open a tire thread.
And....... no I don't work for the company..... but if I could I'd probably buy the company.Mark A. Guthrie TSgt USAF (ret)
