goldcoast/petjw, do you both have the adjustable needles? If so, what is the mikuni number on them? I might want to get some of those.

From your descriptions, you do have the later model carbs, but with adjustable slide needles. Like GC said, probably allowed do to less emissions standards there than in USA?! But I don't have any specific info on the differences?

Pete, have you tried taking OFF the pods and running it just to see how it responds? Some pod filters have prominent lips on the mounts that can interfere with the air flow! If it behaves the same with the pods off, then you know it's carb tuning, and not any obstruction from the pods! Just one more thing to rule out.
Also, what kind of PODS, do you put oil on them, or dry? Too Much Oil??

Also, where did you get your PILOT JETS? Some have been known to be the wrong sizes, not enough vent holes, opening too big despite what is written on the jet, K&L brand, and can lead to a very rich condition in the lower rpm ranges, poor off the line response.

TC and 81XS, carbs are mikuni CV and have 5k7-00 stamped on them with the number 222 under it, the bike is a 7/82XS1100R, yes we both have adjustable needles...and both had 110mains etc same as what pete wrote before...feed back would be good if these numbers mean anything (especially the 222 number under the first one)...Cheers

I don't know anything about those numbers, but if you open them up, please don't forget to take a look at the mikuni number stamped in the needles. This would be an awesome addition for those of us with '80's carbs that have to shim our needles with washers.

sorry i havent got back sooner,
hope u all had a great easter!

the pod filters are uni, wash them in 2 stroke
and put back in dry,
the pilot jets are from mikes xs,
i havent had a chance this weekend, but im going to
lean the fuel mixture out and reset floats to 26mm,
my fuel economy is shot at the moment am only getting
140k b4 the fuel lite lites, prior i was getting over 170ks,
if leaing mixture doesnt fix anything, ill put the
oringinal jets back in and play from there.

i checked out the spare set of carbs i have with adj
needles there are no numbers stamped on them

those needles may not be stock. Every mikuni needle I have seen has numbers and the mikuni (square inside a square) symbol stamped in it.
