Caveat: just my opinion
I've heard of it coming unglued/delaminated/off/whatever. I've also heard of it never causing any problems. I did my tank last year. Probably didn't need to, but I did. My impression is that if you take care, and follow the instructions accurately, it'll be fine.
But if you wait too long (like within minutes) between getting the acid out and Kreem in, then rust has already started to form and that's what the Kreem will bond with instead of the bare metal. If that happens, the rust will continue to oxidize the metal (while underneath the Kreem) and eventually the rust that is bonded to the Kreem falls away from the metal of the tank, and the Kreem comes with it.
So does the PO strike you as the kind of person who follows the instructions to the letter? If so, I'd bet that your tank would be fine. That MEK is some nasty stuff, and if you like your paint job on your tank, don't mess with MEK unless you absolutely have to.

I'm glad to see someone asked this question. This was on my to ask list but had been put on the back burner.
Well anyways I bought a tank off ebay that had been lined with kreem. I don't know if the po followed the directions or what, all I can say is my kreem liner is coming off in places. I didn't know what to use to get it out. Now I know.
mason79, in my opinion. If I was you I would go through and remove the liner as you never know what you will have in the future. And look at it this way, if you get it out now and you decide to redo the kreem liner yourself, you will know it was done right.
Well that was my two cents. Hope no one expects change.Chris

You can get a can of acetone and use a length of chain to help loosen it. Here is a link (not well written) that might give you some ideas:

Just watch your paint! I am in favor of not using tank liners unless they are really bad. Try the electrolysis method to get rust and varnish out. Just get plenty of filters.United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY

this is my oringinal tank, the newly painted one is on the bike, i would not have bought it, if i would have dismantled the original to learn of it's solid condition, only the fuel sender, was loaded with rust even that brushed clean with clr, i'm just going to bring it back to it's glory and have it around..."a good man knows his limitations" dirty harry

If you were aking about a product that has MEK in it Mason, Home Depot sells the straight stuff. Don't spill it in your yard or the EPA is liable to list your house as a Superfund contaminated site.

I had to remove a Kreem liner from WK's FJ11. I asked around at some dealerships and nobody knew, so I got the phone number for the manufacturer, called them and they said to use Acetone. I bought two gallons and let it soak for a couple of days. I did move the tank into different positions to let the Acetone dissolve the liner on all surfaces. It worked great. Just be careful of the finish on the tank.

You want the easy way? Put it on an ant pile and burn it. That not necessarily the greatest idea, although I have caught myself doing that quite often. Second easiest, put it in your used oil before you drop it off at the local vat. I don't know if you should do that either but thats the only way I know how.United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY

The PO kreemed my Honda CB900F and it's lifting off in sheets. I was wondering how to clean this mess. So it's MEK or acetone. Here in Houston, our tanks rust; I guess it's too much wetness in the air. On my XJ700, I used a product called Porcan
I bought it in a kit with the cleaner, acid bath, and sealer. I took my time, followed the directions, and the results were fantastic.'80 XS1100LG Midnight Special

hazadous waste
I just let the liquid Acetone evaporate outdoors, and then put the sludge in a coffee can, and tossed it in the trash. I don't know if that exactly envromentally friendly or not. I was living in a rent house at the time and just thought about dumpig it on a fire ant mound, but decided against that.
