  • Oct. Problems!! HELP!!

I have search for an answer to this problem, but have not been able to find anything. If this has already been covered, please let me know where.

Any way, #3 air intake boot leaks fresh gas when either petcock is turned to the "ON" position. The #4 air intake boot leaks fresh gas when either petcock is turned to the "RESERVE" positon. Keep in mind, this happens when the bike is both running and when the engine is shut off. None of the air intake boots leak when the petcocks are turned to the "OFF" postion. Is this a float problem or is this more of a octapus issue?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like a float valve or rubbing float. or even a float with pinholes in it, take the carbs apart clean and inspect

mason, appreciate the response. The carbs have been taken down, cleaned and floats all adjusted to same height through out.

Just out of sure lack of knowledge, would the floats affect two different carbs with different petcock positions?

        Hey TXWeedman,

It's both an Octopus problem, as well as a Float valve problem. The Petcocks are working, cause the carbs don't leak when they are turned to OFF!

But when you have fuel flowing, it is leaking thru the Octopus, and can find it's way to one or ALL of the carbs. Then, the float needle valves are not sealing, so it's flooding the carbs, and flowing out the air intakes, but it might also be flowing out the engine side as well, down the head intake, into the cylinders IF those intake valves are open for that cylinder, down past the piston rings and into your oil!!

The Octopus is a PITA, just rip it out, run your lines from the petcocks to the carbs, fix your float valves, and then just turn OFF The petcocks when you stop!

ya know boss sounds like you have a special, and i have limited experience with my standard and they are different, depending on how it is plumbed, does one petcock feed 3 and 4
and when you say intake boot, do you have the stock air box and how do you know it leaks?
