  • One Real HOT bike!!!!!!!!!!

Late last year was taking my bike(1981 xs1100H) to a friends house with the intent to get a paint job done but on the way had a small fire break out on the bike contained mostly in the air box it did melt a hole in the bottom of the air box melting though a hose under it as well as the coating on the wires running under it so I now have a question what are the wires running in that area and what is that hose it is NOT the breather hose for the air box that one is fine I have a photo if that would help but I don't know how to upload a photo here never done it as a result of the air box getting wreaked I'm also looking into putting on some K&N style filters have been told I will need to rejet the carbs want to know what I will need to rejet them too also does anyone here know is it possible to but a digital speedo on my bike looking @ 2 of them in the J&P cycle catalog

The wires are for the starter (big one) and the oil pressure switch (small one). The hose you refer to I believe is the middle drive gear vent, and it terminates under the seat where the front attaching point for the airbox is bolted to the frame.

        Hey Bjorn,

Every bike is different, and so along with your mods, you'll need to monitor your sparkplugs to determine whether and what amount of rejetting will be needed. If you'll look thru the tech tips, you'll find a rejetting guide....I think it's in the MISC section, but may be in the MODs, carbs section, just scroll down from the MAIN FORUM PAGE, not just the link in the left yellow column!

It should give you a starting point. Have you ever had your carbs off for a cleaning? Do you still have the brass caps over the pilot jet screws on the top front of the carb bodies? If so, you'll need to removed them to provide access for adjusting the pilot screws to help richen the idle without necessarily having to increase the pilot JET!

Several folks have put on digital speedos, usually just the little simple bicycle type, they usually have a magnetic sensor and trigger that need mounting on the forks and wheel rim, and then calibrated on the circumference of the tire!
