  • oil pressure

I am progressing right along with my two 79SF; thanks to some of you who have helped me get things smoothed out, these two machines are running at their best.

Now, I need some info on 1. what is the standard oil pressure reading for an xs1100 engine?? second, are their some mini gauges that I can replace the sending unit with??

    Much obliged

    Yes there is...

JC Whitney has several types... Sending unit can be "teed" where the original is or can be put in place of the original.

According to the XJ1100 engine specs in the service manual on the XJ-CD, relief valve pressure is 71 psi, so that should be the maximum you see.

BTW, if anyone wants any info from the XJ1100 service manual just ask.

I have aftermarket Suntune gauges on my E, volt and oil pressure.
My oil pressure varies from 65 psi (cold engine and/or ambient temp) to 20 psi (idleing on a hot day).

          Oil Pressure Guage

          Pat,
Does your oil pressure guage have a sending unit or is their an oil line running up to the guage? Where did you buy them?

I have a place to mount 3 small guages in my fairing. I am considering a voltmeter, oil pressure with a sending unit, and possibly some sort of temperature guage.
          Thanks

Autometer sells a nifty 3 gauge panel that has 1-1/2 gauges in it, volts, OP and temp. I guess you could hook the temp gauge up to a oil line and monitor oil temp. All gauges are electric. Mounting sending unit for OP might present an issue. Jegs and Summit sells em.

My gauge (bought at Kragen) is an electrical unit, no oil tube.
I removed the OEM 'idiot light' sending unit, installed a 'T' fitting, reinstalled the 'idiot light' sender and the new gauge sending unit. This attaches to an auxillary wire going through the fairing harness. I remove the fairing and that disconnects the gauge. The light also works all the time.
