I need tech support, will a king and queen seat off a 79 xs11 fit on a 79 xs11 special? If not, what is the difference between the two. I have bought one seat that did not fit and now I have to sell it. I don't really want to hassle with that twice. Thanks.

I may be imstaken, buy I believe a standard seat wont go on a special. Mounts and seat shape are all different.
At any rate the pan is the main part. If you've already tried a standard seat and it didnt fit, then it's likely nothing that comes off a standard will...80 XS1100SG

A Few Animations I've Made -
The standard xs1100 has the TCI unit mounted on rear fender at the back and the seat pan is designed with this in mind. The special xs1100 has the TCI unit mounted under the seat and the pan has been deisigned with that in mind. So a standard seat will not fit on a special. and vice versa. You have to change the mounting points ot accommodate the seat being used. This involves changing the rear fender as well and extending or shortning the wiring to the TCI unit. In a nut shell the special seat needs a special fender, the standard seat needs a standard fender.Comment

The seat I purchased was a seat from an 80 special according to the seller. I got it to fit, but it rubs of the side covers and when you look at the seat from the rear of the bike. you can see the brackets where the rear seat bumpers are attached, the rubber bumpers I guess you call them. It looks like it is missing some type of cover. The gap is quite large, like 3 to 4 inches. It was an extremely tight fit also. Any comments or questions? The open area that you are seeing on the 80 special seat is where the grab bar/tail light assembly fits. On the 79 special the tail light is mounted on the fender. I believe the angle of the pan is a little different too. Where are you from in good ole "Snowy I might add" Iowa?DEW

I have a stock 80sg rear alum grab bar and it has the tailight assembly attached to it. Will hide the hole perfectly. Also have the 80sg rear chrome fender if you want it all to match. send me a PM for details. andreasComment
