carbs - idle creeps up

I have a 79' XS1100 that I've cleaned and triplecleaned the carbs. When I install them and try to run the bike, it starts right up but immediately, the idle begins to creep up - rather quickly. I'm not using an airbox but the little pod filters. Any idea what to look for?

Synchronize the carberettors

Check for a vacuum leak also.
