After purchasing a harness that was supposed to fit my 1979 xs1100F from ebay I have come to the realisation that though it looked that it might fit it does not. I have been trying to modify it but with each turn it seems to be more difficult. Since these harnesses are so old should I try to continue or thy to find the right harness and just plug it in. This is the final phase in the repair process(motor runs strong) that is keeping me from riding and with the weather improving I would sure like to be in the saddle soon. Thanks...Bob

    Bob,
If it was my bike, I would probably look at building my own wire harness. The '79 is almost 30 years old, and any that you buy will be brittle, unless you find a new old stock harness. Geezer has most of the connectors, and if you use the marine grade wire, a "home made" harness will outlast anything you may find. I do have a '78 harness, and it is ALMOST the same, but it's brittle. If you need to try it, PM me and let me know. You can also try andreas, as I think he had one or two left.
