  • Piston skirt scoring?

So, I finally removed my head and cylinders in preparation to take my new cylinders to the machine shop tomorrow morning and saw that my #2 piston skirt looks a little scored/scratch in two places - should I be worried? These are the wiseco pistons from the 1196 kit - seems my rod bearings are in need of replacement too...#@!$@!)

    Slappy???

Need to check the "scratched piston" against a good one. Few thousands to much wear can make a difference and may need a new piston. If you don't have a gauge, your machinist does.

First XS engine job I did was for piston slap. Plasigauged the bearings which said they were still in spec.. Replaced that bearing anyway.

The machinist will be taking a look either this morning or this afternoon and will give me a call...I've got the feeling I'll need to find a single replacement wiseco piston.. the rest are perfectly fine..

      *update*
Looks like it may be possible to get single pistons..emailing Pro-Flo about wiseco part number 4069M07450

So yeah... I took a closer look at the other pistons and they aren't exactly pristine.... and the machine shop called and said not only do I need to replace that piston but the reason it is damaged is because of galling of the pin...SON OF A ... motherless goat!

I've gone ahead and ordered the entire kit from Pro-Flo and am hoping they will let me just cancel the original order of it hasn't already gone through... otherwise it will go straight to ebay unless someone here wants a cometic headgasket and 1196 ring set...

...and this all started because I wanted to fix my starter clutch...sheesh!
