  • Powder coat over chrome???

Can you apply powder coat over chrome? I just bought the Eastwoods powder coate kit. I have been cleaning up some bike parts and have found that old chrome is nearly impossible to remove. I spent about one hour with a bead blaster working on a chrome backing plate and only removed about 70 Percent of the chrome. What is left is the nickel undercoat. The stuff is really stuck and will not come off. The blaster I am using is at work and is very powerful it is used to clean train parts for rebuild. What is left on this part is staying!!!! Can I powder coat over top of whats left. Will powder stick to chrome or nickel. Not so worried about the surface being perfect just want it to look better!!

Yep, it will stick if it's clean. Did a couple of tailpipes and they still look good 12 months later.

What powder did you use for that, Did you have to use the high temp stuff. I have the head pipe and mufflers to do and have been looking at what to use, Iam not sure how hot these parts get?? Ceramic coat Check out this web page, Scroll down to the picture of the header and click on it. Look at what they offer for ceramic header coating. This stuff looks to good to be true!!! Do you think it works that well?
