Windshields for superbike bars

Hey guys,
In my ongoing mod projects, im now to the point where I am looking for a windshield to put on the bike. This being my first time using a windshield on a bike, I have no experience with them.

I currently have a Vetter Sting fairing I am contemplating installing, but im not so sure I like the looks of it on the bike. My dad recommended a regular windshield instead.

If any of you have installed a windshield on your bikes and have superbike/drag bars, post up, im curious to see exactly what will work.

that is real similar to my sting, I do like the looks of that one better though.

I got the sting free from a buddy that is a senior tech at the local honda shop, said a guy came in with an old cb750 and wanted some work done to it, my buddy got to talking to him and he said he had the complete vetter sting kit that came on the bike (sport option) sittin in the shed at home. Knowing I was looking for something, he asked the guy what he would want for it, and the guy said if you have a use for it you can just have it and here we are today.

The things I dont like about it are the fact that I cant use factory blinkers, (I know mods rock) id love to put smaller LED blinkers on, but then what do I do to secure the headlight bucket to the fork tabs? I guess I havent looked close enough to see if a bolt with the square tabs off the blinker arm would work or not.

Hi Bauer,

This is a shot of my SG, it is fitted with the factory fairing from the European "Sport" model (5K7) As far as I know, they were never imported to the USA.



You would find a lot more pics of these on the European XS sites.

That looks interesting, where are the turn signals, or are they not required over there?

Do you have any better pics of that rear faring behind the seat. One of the mods im tossing around is removing the rear fender, Id be interested to see how yours is set up.

Hi Bauer,

The bike is old enough that indicators are not compulsory here. They should mount on a bracket on the lower yoke (triple tree??) To see pics of a standard Sport, have a look at www.xs1100.co.uk; there are some in the "history", and loads of pics in the events section. Threre are a lot of pics of this bike in the "mods" section of the site; all my threads are titled "Alan's Mods XXXXX"

The Tail is just Z650 on a custom bracket, the seat is a heavily modded SG pan with a pro upholstery job.

I can't get more pics at the moment 'cos the bike is hanging from the rafters at the rafters, waiting for bits to come back from machining so I can finish fitting my new 3-spoke 4x17 wheel; have a look here- http://www.benefiscal.co.uk/forum/in...13569#msg13569
I have been told the bits are ready, so I may have some new pics soon!

I found a photo of my MNS with a small National Cycle windscreen



It is adjustable in tilt and is easily removable. I now use this one on my E when the Pacifico is off.

Well, when I was home this weekend I finally got some pics of my ongoing projects....

Here are some pics of the Sting faring mounted (semi) on the bike, it is not positioned correctly because the left blinker is holding my headlight bucket intact. The fairing hits the blinker arm, thus the rather large gap near the headlight. I only had a few hours to work on it, so thats why it is in its current state.







There are a few things im not digging about this fairing,
1. the very flat/square front view
2. the headlight doesnt seem to fit the opening very well. When microfiche'd, it is supposed to fit my bike, even though it came off the CB
3. The color definately has to go, but im a painter so thats not such a problem.


On a side note, thats my dads 80 standard in the background.

I bought a Mair fairing to go with my Midnight.
Do I have to modify the cut outs for the signals? I lifted it up to the head light and it looks as if the turn signal bars are a little in the way. Hate to hack on it when it's so new.

i'm considering a national cycle deflector like yours it's similar to slip streamer spitfire and some of maier's smaller windshields, the queston is how does it compare to naked and how protective is it compared to full vetter like prtection, can you discribe, thanks for the trouble.

I have a Maier fairing. Like it way better than a small windshield that I tried. I had the same thoughts about cutting the brand new plastic, but you have to. I just used a dremel and reshaped the cutouts to just fit the turn signal stalks. It looks and works fine.
Now I'm trying to decide on whether or not to try out some superbike bars. Think I'm gonna give it a shot, then it will look just like Pat's! Not a Midnight though.

I dermmelled about a quarter inch at the turn signals, nothing major.
Both the windshields are solid, no vibrating or shaking. That National Cycle windshield is what I had on my E when I did a top speed run. This shield is also adjustable for angle.
Both keep the wind off your chest fairly well but you head gets buffetted.
The pacifico with lowers on my E keeps almost all the wind off (gets hot in summer, but great in winter or on really (multi-day) long rides.
