  • Flywheel puller? Alternator flywheel...

So...I got a pulley puller thinking that would pull the alternator flywheel so I could get to my right crank seal and also get to my crank bearings.....not so much.

I re-read the instructions in my clymer manual and they say to use a flywheel puller...and show a picture of the thing that looks like a bolt within a bolt. Anyone know where I can get one of these? I am about to pull my hair out next!

This is what the pic in the manual looks like:

I removed mine with a heavy duty 2 leg puller and a LOT of heat. I loaded up the puller real good and put the heat to everywhere except the end of the crank and when enough heat had been applied it popped off.

On my 78E the puller is a straight bolt. Yamaha pn 90890-01080 is hard to find but this puller looks like it would work.

I'm gonna go try some heat on it now with my 2-legger. I had bought a cheap 3 legger at Harbor Freight this morning and just tried it...got it moving about 1/4 inch when all the sudden.. POP! A leg broke :/

Would a normal gear puller work?

Well, I ended up getting a 3 leg 6 inch puller from harbor freight...wish I would've sprung the extra dough for a quality one...just as the thing was starting to budge, a leg snapped off! I then used my 2 leg 6 inch am pro puller and got it the rest of the way off (with the aid of a socket on the end of the center piece).
