  • Just for Cant afford ya....

Here's a little something special for the California people. We have to deal with the retractable nozzle at the gas pump by holding it back so the fuel will flow. Here's the answer...

It;s just a peice of black ABS pipe 2" Dia by about 5.5" long and it fits around the tank opening nice and tight....

You can even fill up into the tube without leaking out, in fact that's the way to really fill up by filling up the tube a couple of times and let it slowly go into the tank. You can get almost an extra 1/2 gal in the tank this way, but if you're not going to be riding right away don't do this as it will warm up and overflow. DAMHIK Keeps the gas from splashing on your nice painted tank too.

Never had a problem doing it though I can see how anoying it is. I bought one of my XSs in cali so I have had to fill up that way coupla times. I laughed when a new HD owner came up beside me asking how we were supposed to pump the gas I do feel sorry for ya though. I would be interested in something like that just fill the tank up 100%

      Word has it...

I hear that you TeXSives will soon have those rubber bellows on your gasoline nozzles too.

Very handy gadget here, stuff a rag inside and carry it in your fairing or wherever.

I'm gonna have a remote idle adjust when the Pathfinder is back together. I will be able to adjust the idle with a knob just over the right side cover. I'll take some pics when I get it done.

            Why...

The idle adjust is impossible to reach. When syncronizing or other carb adjustments the idle changes and adjusting it is just such a PITA. Plus, sometimes after riding for awhile the idle just is too fast and would be nice to be able to adjust it without the PITA, like while sitting at the red light. Just reach down and turn the knob. Also while warming up I won't have to hold the throttle to keep it running, I can instead put on my helmet, gloves, etc.

I thing a better way to do it would be to have a vacuum adjust to the pickup coils. If your bike is warming up, you just open a valve that pulls a litttle more vacuum at the pickup coils. A lot easier than messing around with cables in my opinion. Just one valve tapped to an intake boot and a t fitting. And what carbs are you adjusting? 78-79 or 80+? I have found that a stick on the ground has always been sufficient to adjust the idle on a trip. You normally have the tank off to sync anyway.

                planedick,
Once the carbs have been properly rebuilt and set, you won't need to adjust the idle. I pull the enricher out all the way, fire it up, and push it in 1/2 way after about 30 to 45 seconds of running. If you have no air leaks, the idle does NOT change much once the bike is warm.

That is kinda why I asked,Ray. I am not rubbing this in, but seconding what Driverray said. I definately never have to hold the throttle to keep it running, the choke should be plenty. I did have an idling up when warm problem for a while, but it was because my float valves were leaking/improperly adjusted.

                    Yes I know...

I know that once everything is set right it's rare there is a need to change it, but I do a lot of mountain riding with a wide range of altitude and sometimes, like on a particularly hot day, the idle tends to creep up and it would be SO convenient to just reach down and turn the knob a little. Neighbor has a Honda inline 4 with a knob on a flex shaft for that. Anyway I have already made the parts for the project and when it's finished and installed I'll let y'all in on it. Really pretty easy to do.

                        Hydro clutch...

I would be interested in the hydro clutch. I changed the springs in my clutch for no slip, but it was too hard on the cable so I left 3 new ones and 3 old ones. With the hydro clutch I could put them all in there again and never have to worry about slippage or clutch cable problems... Tell me more....

When I'm fueling in Cal. I pull back the rubber/springy doohicky with one hand and let er rip with the other. Kind of a pain but it works.

CA is not alone. Many stations are adopting these types of nozzles in other states, mandate or no. They're annoying for filling anything other than a cage, but for the minor annoyance it is good for the environment. They're also safer as they prevent vapor buildup that could be ignigted by a static discharge.
