The best way is to compare the serial number on the steering neck with this list.

    XS1100 Serial Numbers
    DZ
    Vyger, 'F'
    "The Special", 'SF'
    '08 FJR1300

well that would mean mine is a 79 XS1100 Sf. Why am I having such a hard time finding the panels? Are the 79 F and Sf side panels so much different?

79F and SF have diff side covers. 80G had holes on top of one side and 79 holes the other side.

You say you're looking for hen's teeth? Good luck. Most you can find is broken or rotten ones....

Which side are you looking for? I have a couple of right side covers for a 79SF.

I am Looking for a decent set for an '80G (standard), with the emblems, or just the emblems.

Mine are on the bike, but the PO filled in the holes and painted them with a spray can. They have been repaired, more than once.

I can fix them, but would like to get a good set, and/or a set of emblems.

I also need the tank emblems, for the same reasons, then I have to go archeologist and 'find' the emblem mounts where they were buried on the tank.

At some point, possibly next winter, I will have to take it apart and paint the whole bike. Just trying to decide if I want to paint it the 'original' red it is now, or black to match the new windjammer I bought, OR the two-tone silver that was the other original choice......
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...
