I just bought an xs1100 on ebay and am picking it up tomorrow and saw the xj at my local yamaha dealer and thought i might pick it up too. I've been working on xs650's for years but wanted something faster to tour on gonna give the 1100 a shot.

I've only worked on one 650. cleaned it up after it sat for 15 years and sold it. But I read somewhere that a heavily modded one can pull 12's in the quarter!! Had somthin to do with a Bub exhaust discussion. But, as I said in another thread, the 11's are generally more pleasant road bikes. You'll much preffer touring on one I think.

        Scooters,

A member here Marty Halberg had a 650 that he rode to one of the VJMC Rallies down southeast, turned out to be more of a XS Triples 750/850 and XS1100 rally! He had a hard time keeping up, and lots of vibration in his hands from the highway jaunts.

He upgraded to an XS11, and is very happy! You will be, too!!

I love how people always have trouble 'keeping up' with the smaller bikes.

I have an XV750 Virago, a bike no one ever associates with power, and yet I have no difficulty keeping up with 1100 shadows (even the 85-6 where they had power), 1300cc Royal stars, etc. HD we wont even mention.

In fact most of these guys are amazed at how fast the little 750 is.

In reality, almost every street bike, over 500cc, that I've owned over the last 20+ years have all topped out around 130mph/220kph. Even the '73 GT750 3cyl 2 stroke water cooled tops out at 132Mph, My 85 Shadow 1100 did 220kph Max.

Most of the 'keeping up' is in the head. I've yet to meet many people that will ever drive thier bikes much in excess of 100mph for any distance.

I've had my old CB360T over 100mph, My old A100 Suzuki would do almost 90mph (it was a 100cc 2 stroke). Hell I had an old 1975 TS250 street/trail that would do over 80Mph.

If your freinds are leaving you behind, you should find more repsonsible friends.

I like the bigger bikes, not for thier speed, as the XS1100 will blow the doors off my freind's $18000 newer bikes, but because I lke them full decked and I pull a 28cuft trailer around behind me.
