Brake light switch

The Pathfinder has a different master cylinder than original and I need a new switch for the brake light. The master cylinder is like this one....



Does anyone know what year/model it is and where I can get a switch?

Dick, that may be a Parts n More replacement M/C. It looks like one from an XJ.

Does the stock switch not work on this master cylinder. I mean will it plug in.

Stock switch

If you mean stock switch for this master cyl, yes, that's what I need. If you mean stock for the '78, no the switch is different. I think this master cylinder is from a XS650. Mikes XS shows PN 08-0265. I sent him an e-mail asking if a switch is available.

I have the same M/Cylinder on my 82' XS1100 (australian release) The stop light switch is in the back of where the handle pivots...they are readily available from your yamaha dealer or generic either works fine....if you need a pic let me know.....I dont want to slow the thread up with pics if you dont need.....but it is a round 5mm Dia' cylinder switch bout' 25-30mm long...very generic with most bikes that year..

Not round....

The switch isn't round at all. Looks a lot like a miniture micro switch with two tabs for push on connectors. Later today I will take it off and take a picture and post it here. I really don't know what kind of bike it cam off of. Just looks like that one.

Hey Dick,

It looks very similar to one I got for mine 5 years ago when I was first doing my rebuild, I got it from a wreckers, it says Yamaha, but it was for a single caliper system, it had the square switch. Fortunately, the switch still worked, so I just spliced the wires from the old one onto the new switch. If you look in Yamaha's Web Site, you might find it for some of the smaller bikes with single fron caliper?

I have a complete mastercylinder on the way which oughta be handy. I might get the switch too. Can't have too many spare parts.

Now if I just had a headlight relay.....
