    next step gas tank

ok scored an xs standard tank , FREEBIE, well had to trade some xs 650 parts for it. heres the plan, ive cut the recessed area around filler cap out and want to weld in a cover over that and install a flush mount cap, i removed gauge float and shaft and vent tube, if flush mount caps arent vented what will i need to do to vent tank? Im hoping there vented but have no experience with em.
also scored a 4-1 header for 60 bucks on another forum, and wheels are getting bead blasted.

    THANKS

    venting.

I had to make a small pinhole in the new gas cap of the v-star tank that I put on. Now I am about(maybe) to do the same for my brand new tank for my latest chop. I remember running out/starving for gas before I put the pinhole in it....chop

well since this is going to be a streetfigher Id thought about venting like dirbikes used to do with a hose from top of tank instead of through cap. Is your chop hardtailed or streached swingarm?

nice tank, I didnt get that lucky on the swap, she's soakin in vinager now! with the top recessed area cut out she should be easy to clean out, did get lucky no dents.

Im surprised the tunnel on vic tank is wide enough.

The XS tanks (both standard and special) are vented through the cap. The tube in the standard tank is a drain for any liquids that accumulate in the recessed cap area.

One thing to look out for is that drain tube being rusted out where it passes through the tank. If that has happened, fuel will pour out that tube in the back of the tank.

                  yamaha thinking

yeah that was a bad design idea for the tube if you ask me. If that happens, just plug the drain hole with tank sealer putty and let dry. Also for your info (jeepurz) the R1 recessed cap is cheap on ebay and you can find a wrecked R1 tank to match the cap area dirt cheap too. I was going to do that to the V-star tank but ran across the Vegas tank in perfect shape...chop
